OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Brad Henry is urging Oklahomans to stock up on provisions and heed travel warnings as a major winter storm approaches the state. Henry said Tuesday that a storm currently off the California coast could drop up to 12 inches of snow in northwestern Oklahoma and significant accumulations of ice elsewhere.
State Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood says the storm is expected to reach the state by Wednesday night and has the potential to be devastating. Ashwood says forecasters are comparing the storm to the devastating ice storm of 2007 in which 650,000 electrical customers were without power, some for days. Henry says Oklahomans should prepare for possible power outages. He says motorists should also be aware of road conditions and take no unnecessary risks.
