DankOKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Republican state lawmaker is urging GOP House Speaker Chris Benge to support his property tax cap bill or let someone else lead the House. State Rep. David Dank of Oklahoma City has authored measures that would limit annual property tax increases at 3 percent and freeze those taxes for seniors over 65. Benge has opposed making the property tax cap a legislative priority for the 2010 Legislature.

The state faces a $729 million budget shortfall for the fiscal year that ends June 30. Benge has said lawmakers must balance tax relief with the need to raise enough money to pay for basic needs like public education and public safety. Dank says Benge's statements are out of touch with the Republican principle of limited government.
