A measure to merge the Ardmore Higher Education Center into Southeastern State University won the approval Monday of the Senate Education Committee, passing with assurances from its author that the bill would not move forward without support from Gov. Mary Fallin who vetoed a similar piece of legislation in 2011.
SB 1444, by Sen. Frank Simpson, R-Ardmore, received a do pass recommendation from the committee on a 9 to 6 vote. The bill’s approval came after a series of questions from Sen. Susan Paddack, D-Ada, and Sen. Richard Lerblance, D-Hartshorne, about the costs and viability of the facility once it is merged.  For the full story go to www.ecapitol.net
