Senate Democrats derail budget agreement

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - In a dispute over funding for senior nutrition programs, Senate Democrats have derailed a funding agreement designed to plug holes in the current year's state budget. All 21 of the Democrats in Senate on Monday voted against the emergency clause on a budget bill that would have transferred $30 million from the state's Unclaimed Property Fund to a separate special cash fund.
The bill is a key component to a budget agreement reached last week between Gov. Brad Henry, a Democrat, and leaders of the Republican-controlled House and Senate. Senate Democrats expressed frustration that the more than $419 million spent as part of the agreement did not include $2.5 million to help senior nutrition centers keep their doors open for the rest of the fiscal year.
