Nelson seeks second term in House District 87
(POL) Rep. Jason Nelson, who is seeking his second term as the state representative from House District 87, said he hopes to continue finding creative, bipartisan solutions at the state Capitol.
During his first term, Nelson, R-Oklahoma City, worked on a number of issues ranging from the economy and tort reform to adoption reform and special education.
And if Nelson has learned one thing, it is that legislators really can reach across the aisle and find creative, outside-of-the-box solutions to some of Oklahoma’s problems, he said in an interview.
One example, he said, is HB 3393, by Nelson and Sen. Patrick Anderson, R-Enid. The bill creates the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarships for Students with Disabilities Program Act to provide a scholarship to a private school of choice for students with disabilities for whom an individualized education program, or IEP, has been developed, to be awarded beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. It allows a parent or legal guardian of a public school student with a disability to exercise their parental option and request to have a scholarship awarded for the child to enroll in and attend a private school if the student has spent the prior year at a public school and the student has been accepted into a private school eligible for the scholarship program.
